“Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has budgeted N35 million for the upgrade of its website and expansion of Local Area Network at its headquarters — months after it claimed to have spent N64.8 million on redesigning and upgrading the same website”
Let me disabuse the minds of those criticising it:
The N64.8 million included cost of procuring computers and other IT enabled devices for the unit staffers incharge of managing the website, as well as training for them. The additional cost of N35m for Local Area Network (LAN) expansion is in order. I wish some of us understand what LAN is and the cost of IT procurement. OSGF website is not an ordinary organisation website but a government site prone to cyber attack. From my analysis of the website, the Consultant have implemented Secure SSL on the site. This may add to the cost. By the way, the use of domain hosted email facilitated by Google or Microsoft comes with huge cost. Procurement of enterprise security and anti-hacking software for both the website and the for devices connected to it comes with heavy cost.
Don’t forget that most government agencies lack competence IT professional in their respectives MDAs to manage their IT infrastructure, and so most MDAs outsource the management of their IT services to IT Vendor (Consult) with the requisite IT knowledge to drive its IT infrastructure. You cannot pay a consultant as you are paying an employee in government payroll.
Considering all of the aforementioned, to me the cost of N35m additional requirement for the upgrade is economical.
