NDDC BOSS URGES NIGER DELTA COMMUNITIES TO KEY INTO FEDERAL GOVERMENT’S VISION
The Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, has advised the people of oil-producing communities in Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta region to key into the new vision proposed by the Federal Government for the transformation of the region.
In a statement on Thursday’s visit of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to Akwa Ibom State issued from New York, United States, where he is on the Federal Government delegation to the United Nations, Ekere noted with delight that the Federal Government has started partnering with State and Local Governments, oil companies, private sector and civil society organizations for the benefit of the oil-producing communities.
He described the visit to the State as a huge success, judging from the promises made by the Acting President concerning the extension of amnesty benefits by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Amnesty Office to Akwa Ibom State, the establishment of modular refineries and power plants in the State and the location of a technology hub in the State.
The NDDC boss also commended the Acting President for promising to partner with the State Government on the development of the Ibaka Deep Seaport, for directing the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to engage the International Oil Companies (IOCs) on the way forward regarding the relocation of their headquarters to their operational areas and for restating the resolve of the Federal Government to reconstruct the Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene-Aba Road and to upgrade the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, to a university status as soon as the Bill is passed by the National Assembly.
Mr. Ekere, a former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, hailed the peaceful nature of the people of the state and urged them to continue to provide the enabling environment for private investment which, as the Acting President stated, was the path for sustainable development.
He reassured the people of Niger Delta that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was fully committed to the development of the region.
On the part of NDDC, Mr. Ekere pledged that the Commission will continue to deliver on its mandate of rapid and sustainable development of the region.
